484 BC – Dedication of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in ancient Rome
1799 – The Rosetta Stone is found in the Egyptian village of Rosetta by French Captain Pierre-François Bouchard during Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign. Engraved in three languages, Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics, Demotic Script, and Ancient Greek, this stone, carved in black granodiorite, is a royal decree issued in 196 BC on behalf of King Ptolemy V.
