Lower Manhattan’s Annual Rite of Spring Inspires Love at First Bite
The 31st Taste of Tribeca, the annual food fest that benefits P.S. 234 and P.S. 150, took over Duane and Greenwich Streets on May 17 with comestibles from 60-plus local restaurants, along with live music and family-friendly activities. Among the culinary draws were foodie favorites such as Artesano, Casa Carmen, Filé Gumbo Bar, Frenchette Bakery, Locanda Verde, Takahachi, and Zucker’s – along with firehouse comfort food from Hook & Ladder Company 8 (headquartered in the “Ghost Busters” building, on North Moore Street).
Funds raised at Taste of Tribeca make it possible for students at P.S. 150 and P.S. 234 to take weekly instrumental music, science, chess, and dance classes, and also help pay for field trips that support their units of study.
First held in the early 1990s at a loading dock on Jay Street, Taste of Tribeca now hosts dozens of chefs from highly regarded local restaurants – some of them Michelin starred – on a streetscape that was once the epicenter of New York City’s produce and dairy markets.
