Crossing the Street Safely

Posted on February 6, 2017February 6, 2017

To the editor:

I have noticed lately that the Allied Barton security guards have been directing pedestrians and traffic at Battery Place and 2nd place during drop off at PS 276. On a recent morning there was one guard on Battery Place as in the attached photo and another standing in front of 2nd Place.

While I appreciate the effort, I’m curious if they are trained to be doing this. They seem a little apprehensive and timid. I know they are not allowed to make arrests or intervene in any altercation in any way so it would surprise me if they are authorized to direct traffic.

As far as I know the only thing they are allowed to do is call 911. If they are not authorized to be doing this then I think they should stop before someone gets hurt.
