OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS

Chamber Orchestra of New York’s (CONY) season kicks off on November 16th, at Carnegie’s Weill Hall.
Led by Maestro Salvatore Di Vittorio, the orchestra’s mandate is to elevate young musical artists’ careers.

Principal flutist, Ginevra Petrucci, mentioned in Huffington Post’s Italian edition that CONY provides her opportunities otherwise unavailable. She will perform Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 with concertmaster Kelly Hall-Tompkins and principal harpsichordist Aymeric Dupré la Tour.

Principal violist Maggie Snydertravels from her home in Georgia to retain her roster spot. She performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola with Ms. Hall-Tomkins last season. Daniel Khalikov is a former roster member who secured a permanent position with the Met Opera Orchestra, yet retains a relationship including as concertmaster at Orchestra for Hire engagements with Dolce & Gabbana and Tory Burch.

Battery Park City residents Lucy Kuhn, Jane Mancino, and Olga Sivkovacommented on performances with Ms. Sivkova observing, “there is a very unique atmosphere among the orchestra members, a feeling of enthusiasm, youthfulness and amazing harmony. The concerts were fabulous. I was especially impressed by Salvatore Di Vittorio, Music Director and Composer. His passion for music and love of his orchestra truly transpires through the orchestra’s performances.” Ms. Mancino added, “This chamber orchestra of young musicians sparkles with brio, vitality and style,” while Ms. Kuhn said, “I highly recommend going to a CONY concert!”
Other performances include February 14th and June 6th at Weill.

Pianist Juan Carlos Fernández-Nietoreturns on June 7th at Adelphi University. He performed with CONY last year with great elan, including an extended period with his eyes closed, and received a standing ovation in appreciation. Ms. Sivkova said, “I was blown away!” There’s also an intimate videotaped live concert after two Naxos label album recordings at the DiMenna Centeron June 27th, with a post-concert reception.

“CONY provides a platform for opportunities,” said BPC resident and board member Steve Avary. Jonathan Rush, New York Conducting Workshop participant and Respighi Prize-winner, “had the opportunity to shine at one of the most prominent venues in the world, Carnegie Hall,and shine he did. A large group of family and friends surrounded him, all beaming with pride and joy. Seeing their smiling faces and the positive energy makes all the hard work we do at CONY worth it.”
