Museum of Jewish Heritage Hosts Celebration of the Written Word

On Sunday, November 16, the Museum of Jewish Heritage will host the fourth annual New York Jewish Book Festival, from 10am through 5:30pm. Highlighting the vibrancy and diversity of Jewish voices in contemporary literature, more than a dozen authors will participate in talks, readings, panel discussions and book signings.

The event “has become a beloved tradition that celebrates Jewish creativity and community in all its forms,” says museum president Jack Kliger, adding that Sunday’s schedule “brings together extraordinary authors, performers, and partners who embody the spirit of discovery and dialogue that defines our mission.”

Programs will include “Spinning Silver,” with Naomi Novik and Michal Schick exploring Jewish folklore and fantasy storytelling, and“Matchmaker, Matchmaker… Jewish Love and Romance,” a lively conversation on love, identity, and modern matchmaking. A performance of “Cry for Me Argentina: My Life as a Failed Child Star” features Tamara Yajia’s irreverent blend of humor, memoir, and cultural reflection.

Attendees are invited to view the museum’s current exhibitions, “The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do” and “Courage to Act: Rescue in Denmark,” and to browse a curated marketplace with book-themed gifts and artisanal products, featuring Haus of Babka, Made by Maggie, Myriad Mirage, and Sophia Chizuko. Festival partners include McNally Jackson Books, The Forward, Lilith Magazine, Yiddish Book Center, Be’chol Lashon, The Ripped Bodice, Moment Magazine, the 14th Street Y, and the Jewish Book Council.

The Museum of Jewish Heritage is located at 36 Battery Place (near First Place). Admission to the New York Jewish Book Festival (and to the museum as a whole) is free on the day of the event, although a donation of $10 is suggested.
