The Sounds of Music and Art

Posted on January 25, 2017February 5, 2019

To the editor,

In response to Sy Schleimer’s letter Saving the Sound of Music and Art, I want you to know there is hope, energy and love for preserving all that we treasure in our culture.

As director of New American Youth Ballet here in BPC for the last 15 years, we agree with your conclusions whole heartedly!

We perform with a 40-piece professional symphony orchestra at Stuyvesant High School for our dancers to experience something emotionally memorable and lasting. (even some performers as young as age 2 get this opportunity) These students understand from the inside what these ballets are and what the music means, because they are a part of it!

This is not a decision made with financial benefit in mind, but to instill a taste of something wonderful in these young children. Our hope is they will share and support live music and dance for the next generation to come. Because they had this positive experience at such a young age, we believe they will!

We welcome you to visit our school!
We meet Saturdays and Mondays at 280 Rector Place.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insight.
