To the editor:
In regard to Mr. Goodkind’s letter in the April 28 BroadsheetDAILY that suggests BPC should become part of New York City:With corruption appearing to ooze out in many directions from the Mayor’s office, why would anyone want to place Battery Park City under the city’s control?

A far better solution would be to increase local representation on the BPCA board; given all the neighborhood concern, it seems probable that this will eventually happen.

Ironically, Mr. Goodkind’s letter appears directly below the Broadsheet article which discusses downtown construction and includes this quote, “Seven weeks ago, four elected officials  representing Lower Manhattan wrote to City Hall for…oversight of construction in Lower Manhattan. They have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply”.

Why in the world would we want to subject our community to the unresponsiveness or worseof City Hall?

Posted on June 22, 2018

Dear editor: Wow – that was fast!  Dennis Mehiel steps down from the BPCA Board. Just one question:  Who does our governor ask for input on these selections?…

Letters Save History

Posted on June 18, 2018July 4, 2018

To the editor:    It has become apparent more than ever that the the current Mayor is going to follow Mayor Bloomberg’s actions in allowing NYC’s historical treasured South Street Seaport district to be fed to the voracious  Howard Hughes Corp. with the collusion of the city’s EDC to be turned into an upscale mall….

9/11 Health Care

Posted on May 3, 2018February 5, 2019

To the editor: 9/11 health care was won through the efforts of a vast coalition of 9/11 responders, community members and other stakeholders who worked alongside Congressman Jerry Nadler and a host of other elected officials to get the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act passed by the congress in 2010. Thanks to their persistence, the…

Splitting the Difference

Posted on May 1, 2018February 5, 2019

To the editor, Thanks for writing about the dog run/children run “Splitting the Difference,”  (BroadsheetDAILY, April 9) a few issues ago. However, the article is extracted from some of us, lightheartedly reliving the past in a discussion.  While the evolution of those spaces is relevant it also can give the reader the wrong impression as to what is…

Prescription: A Dose of Loss

Posted on April 18, 2018

To the editor: Yon and Elizabeth are going out of business is not the problem. They understand business is business. The real loss here is having great people like Yon and Elizabeth leaving the area. They did the community a favor by reopening after 9/11 when it did not make financial sense. Wish all the…
