Meet at The Battery greeter table with the striped awning near SeaGlass Carousel. The Battery Conservancy

11AM

Virtuoso Clown Jamie Adkins
Tribeca Performing Arts Center
Virtuoso clown Jamie Adkins wanders onto stage with a new show, delighted to find the audience waiting. Knowing he has just the thing, Jamie struggles to build the scene around him using everyday objects. Things go awry as his props prove most unhelpful: his ladder disintegrates under foot! He wrangles an animated chair, tussles with a pesky hat, negotiates a precarious slack wire and juggles almost everything. An expert at comedy born of desperation, Jamie’s performance is humble and unguarded. Adkins deftly escorts the audience along his poetic journey with sidesplitting wit.  $30 199 Chambers Street. For tickets.

Dated from the 12th century to the 7th century B. C., The Book of Songs is the fountainhead of Chinese literature, and the oldest collection of poetry in world literature. It is an anthology of 305 poems edited by Confucius (551-479 B. C.). At this lecture, Mr. Ben Wang, Senior Lecturer and the Co-Chair of the Renwen Society at China Institute, will select four of the best poems from the Book of Songs and offer an in-depth analysis. 40 Rector Street.

Describing her strategies for translating Lorca’s varied poetic music, she will read from the cante, the ballads, and the great homoerotic love poems. Arvio will be joined by flamenco guitarist and Lorcaphile Sergio Sánchez-Monge Escardó in performance. $10, $7 10 River Terrace.

Annual Great Crashes Walking Tour
Museum of American Finance

Relive the Great Crash of 1929 on the Museum’s annual crash-themed walking tour of Lower Manhattan. This unique walking tour, now in its 32nd year, is the only regularly-scheduled event that commemorates the Great Crash of 1929, the Panic of 1907 and the 1987 stock market collapse. It also delves into the political, financial, real estate and architectural history of Wall Street and New York City. The tour shows that despite such adversities as the Great Fires of 1776 and 1835, financial panics of the 19th century, the 1920 Wall Street explosion, the Crash of 1929, the stock market collapse of 1987, the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack and the financial crisis of 2008, New York and Wall Street have always recovered their position as the world’s financial capital. $15 Tour meets outside 48 Wall Street.

Many ships pass Lower Manhattan on their way to and from the Midtown Passenger Ship Terminal.  Others may be seen on their way to or from piers in Brooklyn and Bayonne.  Stated times, when appropriate, are for passing the Colgate clock in Jersey City, New Jersey, and are based on sighting histories, published schedules and intuition. They are also subject to tides, fog, winds, freak waves, hurricanes and the whims of upper management.
