The Job Market

June 28, 2016 By Matthew Fenton Leave a Comment

Downtown ranks dead last among all communities in the five boroughs for the percentage of unemployed residents, according to the City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. But the tally of locals who can’t find work may get even smaller tomorrow (Wednesday, June 29), when a job fair at the Conrad New York Hotel (102 North End Avenue, near Vesey Street) will match candidates to hundreds of positions with more than 50 retailers, restaurants, and vendors, which will open this summer in the World Trade Center and the nearby Fulton Center.

The fair is being hosted by Westfield Corporation, which has leased all the commercial space in both complexes, and is now subleasing stores to companies as varied as Disney, Apple, Mont Blanc, and Longines.

The commercial spaces that will open in the World Trade Center's Oculus (and elsewhere within the complex) this August are slated to include 125 stores and restaurants, which will be beckon to more than 250,000 PATH passengers each business day, as well as tens of thousands of tourists and visitors.

The job fair will begin at 2:00 pm and continue through 8:00 pm. Among the open positions are posts in sales, operations, back-of-house, and management (both full- and part-time), in retail settings ranging from men’s and women’s fashion to beauty, jewelry, and accessories, as well as food services establishments, such as Eataly and Epicerie Boulud.

In addition to introducing candidates to prospective employers, the job fair will offer free services, such interview skills seminars, resume building workshops, and a professional photographer for profile head shots.

The event is free and open to the public, but anyone wishing to participate must register in advance (without charge) at www.westfield.com/westfieldworldtradecenter/job-fair
