The China Institute (40 Rector Street, between West and Washington Streets) is hosting a landmark exhibition, “Art in a Time of Chaos: Masterworks From Six Dynasties China, Third through Sixth Centuries.”
This period, China’s equivalent to Europe’s Renaissance, ushered in an explosion of artistic creativity and the celebration of individual expression.
And recent archaeological digs have unearthed extraordinary works of art from the era, completely altering modern scholars’ understanding of this chaotic interval of political upheaval, geographical division and civil strife.
“Art in a Time of Chaos” presents recently discovered examples of ceramics, sculpture, calligraphy and painting from the Six Dynasties.
Now through October 9, admission is free. Starting October 10, admission will be priced at $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for students and seniors, with children and China Institute members admitted free.
