Dear Editor

Guards are stationed on the plaza outside the Wintergarden and have
been harassing bicyclists and telling us that bicycle riding is not
permitted in the plaza. I remember that Brookfield tried this a few years
ago and had to stop.

One guard ordered me off my bike and when I refused and replied that
it is public parkland to which he said “I hope you get hit.”

I can understand that when the plaza has a lot of pedestrians the guards
could ask bicyclists to slow down.

By what authority are the signs banning bicycle riding displayed?

The signs are not Parks Department signs – my guess is that they are from Brookfield.

What can be done by this over reach by Brookfield?
