The POPS Heads Uptown

January 3, 2017 By Robert Simko

This year the New York Philharmonic celebrating its 175 anniversary has requested that certain New York City groups perform their own version of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, the New York Philharmonic’s first concert performance 175 years ago.

One of those groups is Lower Manhattan’s TriBattery Pops. Tom Goodkind, the founder and conductor, spent the better part of last summer arranging the symphony for the Pops. They can be seen here performing it at a recent rehearsal party at the Church Street School for Music and Art in Tribeca. Click here to get a sneak preview.

A studio recording and video of the Pops version is scheduled for next month and will be featured on the New York Philharmonic’s website and archives.
