To the editor:
In regard to Mr. Goodkind’s letter in the April 28 BroadsheetDAILY that suggests BPC should become part of New York City:With corruption appearing to ooze out in many directions from the Mayor’s office, why would anyone want to place Battery Park City under the city’s control?

A far better solution would be to increase local representation on the BPCA board; given all the neighborhood concern, it seems probable that this will eventually happen.

Ironically, Mr. Goodkind’s letter appears directly below the Broadsheet article which discusses downtown construction and includes this quote, “Seven weeks ago, four elected officials  representing Lower Manhattan wrote to City Hall for…oversight of construction in Lower Manhattan. They have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply”.

Why in the world would we want to subject our community to the unresponsiveness or worseof City Hall?

To the editor, re: Go For Broke (BroadsheetDAILY October 23) If I were in retail, this news would scare me to death. SCIFI is here now with a store owners dream: No unemployment insurance, no workers comp, no HR problems, no employee IRS reporting etc etc: In a nutshell: No workers. How many low paid…

Greenery: Lawns, gardens, and the serene view of the river

Posted on October 10, 2018February 5, 2019

To the editor: RE: The Felicity of the Commons ( BroadsheetDAILY, October 9 ) Some of the suggested improvements already exist a very short walk north in Hudson River Park: for example, a kayak pier and tennis courts. Obviously, there is never enough of any of nature’s gifts. The one thing everyone needs and can use…

West Thames/Rector Street Project

Posted on September 20, 2018February 5, 2019

To the editor: Is the West Thames Street Bridge a typically managed public project in New York City? Publicity and public meetings are concerning. Questions begin to arise. Why does such a project cost so much? Who benefits? It doesn’t seem to be the taxpayers. How does a $20 million contract become a $40 million…

LETTER

Posted on September 4, 2018

To the Editor:   Chutzpah…It is not surprising to Seaport denizens that the Dallas-based Howard Hughes Corporation (HHC) fully understands the meaning of this word. HHC finally showed its hand at last month’s Manhattan Community Board 1 Executive Committee meeting: they want to line their pockets by bending the rules and asked the community to…

To the editor, While I don’t always agree with traffic consultant Sam Schwartz (particularly on his support for the “congestion pricing” tax scam), I believe his analysis of the effect of the one-way Verrazano Bridge toll on lower Manhattan is spot on. The one-way  toll has burdened those of us living in lower Manhattan with…

LETTERS

Posted on July 18, 2018

To the editor: Good for Margaret Chin taking action to reduce traffic congestion downtown by introducing a resolution to change the toll pattern of the Verrazano Bridge. I hope that the next step will be for this matter to be brought to Congress where the legal change can be made. It’s an outrage that the…
