To the editor:
In regard to Mr. Goodkind’s letter in the April 28 BroadsheetDAILY that suggests BPC should become part of New York City:With corruption appearing to ooze out in many directions from the Mayor’s office, why would anyone want to place Battery Park City under the city’s control?

A far better solution would be to increase local representation on the BPCA board; given all the neighborhood concern, it seems probable that this will eventually happen.

Ironically, Mr. Goodkind’s letter appears directly below the Broadsheet article which discusses downtown construction and includes this quote, “Seven weeks ago, four elected officials  representing Lower Manhattan wrote to City Hall for…oversight of construction in Lower Manhattan. They have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply”.

Why in the world would we want to subject our community to the unresponsiveness or worseof City Hall?

Letters

Dear editor, It’s great news to hear about the effort to get our Battery Park City “neighbors” to participate in this year’s Tunnel to Towers race. The more the merrier. However, how about a Kudo or two to your local Tribeca CERT team which has been at the Tunnel to Towers FINISH line doing crowd...

To the editor: Tammy’s insightful comments about moving the Sphere to Liberty Park are a continuation of her many reasonable comments on local issues over the past 15 years. It is disrespectful to those of us who have been living with the aftermath for almost two decades to think that we need to preserve every...

To the editor: As someone who can’t even float, much less swim, I am fascinated by Stein Hoff’s amazingly brave endeavor. In each issue of The Broadsheet, I look first for the updates from this intrepid adventurer in his wee vessel as he hurtles through heaving seas, rows all day only to be pushed back by the...

Letters

Dear editor, I read with interest Tammy Meltzer’s comments in the July 1 Broadsheet. I must respectfully disagree. In her letter she states that Liberty Park is not “the Memorial” but an urban pedestrian boulevard. Why can’t it be both? The sphere is not so large that it will impede the physical flow of people...

To the editor: The very moving letter you published by Shelly Mossey about Olga Evgleska Cook’s death with its description of the chaos in parts of our BPC neighborhood re-emphasized my comment yesterday, “Sometimes I wish that our level of civilization in this neighborhood were on a par with our landscaping.” For all the upscale...

To the editor: re: Liberty Park The opening of Liberty Park is a beautiful addition to the ever-growing Lower Manhattan neighborhood. It will provide open space for all of the residential buildings in the area as well as a nice place for business people to take a break from the office.  The comparison to the...
